Ja, eine Scheibe; und nein, nicht so wie die in Asterix und Obelix. Nicht wie die in der Weltvorstellung des Mittelalters. Ich beziehe mich mit dem Wort Scheibe auf  den Unterpunkt 1.4. der obigen Definition.Meine Welt ist seit nicht allzu langer Zeit aber doch unwiderruflich eine Töpferscheibe. Sie ist natürlich auch mehr: Familie, Freunde und Zusammensein; die Natur erleben; auf den Berg gehen; ein gutes Buch lesen; kochen; vielleicht doch einmal ein bisschen unterrichten.

Vor allem dreht sie sich seit etwa zwei Jahren aber um die und auf der Scheibe, spritzt in alle Richtungen, öffnet mir die Augen für Form und Funktion, erlaubt mir, mich kreativ auszudrücken.

In Meine Welt ist eine Scheibe möchte ich meine Entwicklung als Töpferin dokumentieren, und dir eine Möglichkeit geben, sie mitzuverfolgen. Ich möchte dir einerseits über meine Töpferreisen und Fortbildungen berichten und andererseits über die Marktgigs, auf die ich momentan nur hoffe.

Meine fertigen Schüsseln, Vasen und Tassen zu fotografieren und ihren Entstehungsprozess zu beschreiben gibt mir einen Anlass, über die Idee hinter einem bestimmten Design zu reflektieren und macht mir außerdem Freude.
Ich hoffe, dass du diese Freude beim Schmökern auf meiner Seite spürst, und ich ein kleines Stück meines Lächelns auf dich übertragen kann.

The name of my website is a pun that I think works pretty well in German, but that I wouldn’t know how to translate into English. This is why I’ll skip lengthy explanations and definitions and get right to it. For some time now, pottery has had a huge importance in my life. I’m not studying it, mind you. Strictly speaking, I have not even had a teacher. But even so, without tuition or proper guidance, making pots has slowly become an intricate part of my life. So much so that I have made up all sorts of occasions, have come up with all sorts of fundraisers, in order to have an excuse to spend hours on end throwing, trimming and glazing pots. My world, in many ways, has come to evolve around pottery.

Of course it evolves around other things too: spending time with family and friends; exploring the outdoors; reading a good book; cooking; teaching a bit. But ceramics has slowly taken up more and more of my mind, my time, and my heart. Through it I’ve come to appreciate form and function in new ways, have learned to express things and feelings that I couldn’t say in words.

Meine Welt ist eine Scheibe is a way for me to document my progress as an aspiring potter, and for you to follow it if you are interested. On this website I aim to keep you updated about the journeys (quite literally) I’ll be making as a potter to learn more about the craft, and the market dates and venues that I will be selling at (hopefully).

Photographing my finished pieces and describing how they came into being allows me to reflect about the creation process, but more than that I enjoy doing it. I hope that the excitement that I feel while making and writing about my pots is contagious, and that by reading my blog entries you may end up smiling as much as I am.
